The Herd didn’t just win their season opener against OPO they flattened them, cruising to a 9-0 blowout that already has the rest of the league buzzing. With Nev pouring in points and Mr. Bush locking down defensively, the Herd looked less like an underdog and more like a team on a mission.
Nev: The Next ACN… Almost
Comparisons are already flying, and it’s hard to ignore: Nev looks like a slightly worse ACN.
The scoring instincts? Check. The confidence with the ball? Check. The takeover ability? Double check. The only real difference is polish ACN has already proven himself on the biggest stages, while Nev is just stepping onto the scene. But if this debut is any preview, he’s not far off.
Mr. Bush: Scrappy & Smart
While Nev stole the spotlight, Mr. Bush quietly stole possessions. His scrappy defense and solid IQ made life miserable for OPO’s offense, and every stop seemed to fuel another Herd scoring run. He’s not flashy, but every great team needs that defensive anchor — and Bush is quickly proving to be that guy.
OPO’s Missteps
OPO made history by becoming the first team to field three players at once Hank, John, and Whitty but history wasn’t enough to save them. Hank’s brutal own-goal three-pointer turned a tough night into a nightmare, and from there the Herd never looked back. John showed leadership and effort, but the chemistry just wasn’t there yet for OPO.
Are the Herd Dangerous?
It’s only one game, but it’s hard not to overreact after such a lopsided result. The Herd have:
A rising star in Nev who can fill up the stat sheet.
A defensive grinder in Mr. Bush who sets the tone.
Momentum, swagger, and now a reputation.
If Nev really is “ACN-lite,” and Bush keeps playing with this much grit, the Herd could turn into one of the most dangerous dark horses in the league this year.
